14 Sept. 2015 | The 40th Conference of the Pacific Maritime Transport Alliance (PMTA) hosted by PNG Ports Corporation Limited (PNGPCL) from September 14 – 17, 2015 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
According to Chief Executive Officer of PNGPCL and also current President of the PMTA, Mr. Stanley Alphonse comment, “the objective of PMTA is to promote regional cooperation, friendship and understanding between member ports and port users through mutual association, exchange of knowledge and information useful to port administrations.”
“PMTA also promotes measures to increase efficiency and safety and facilitating harmonious development of ports in the region,” Mr. Alphonse said.
The theme of this year PMTA 40th Conference- “TO IMPROVE PORTS PRODUCTIVITY AND MARKET CHALLENGES".
At the conference members challenging and exciting to discussions on topics covering various maritime port and transport issues as well as the many challenges they faced within the global maritime port and transport industry.
The conference also provides an opportunity for port members from the Pacific countries and territories to share ideas, enhance understanding and promote cooperative approaches to the achievement of conference outcomes.
The member countries are American Samoa, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guam, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, Northern Marianas, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Tonga and Vanuatu and the Associate members are New Zealand, Australia and Canada.
The next PMTA was confirmed to be host by Niue next year but time was not confirm yet. Tonga representative from Ports Authority Tonga attended at the 4 days conference.
